Kettlewell is in Upper Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

It nestles at the feet of Great Whernside, and Buckden Pike on the River Wharfe, is famous for being the village of Knapely in the Calendar Girls film and hosts a popular Scarecrow festival each year.

Kettlewell today

Like many in the Yorkshire Dales, the village is a popular tourist destination, especially for walkers. There are three pubs and numerous guest houses, holiday cottages and a Youth Hostel.

Both the highest peaks in the Dales are close to Kettlewell. The challenge of the nearby Great Whernside, at 2,310ft the highest, is close by is close by while Buckden Pike, a close 2,303 ft is not far away.

The village holds a well known Scarecrow Festival each year in August. A variety of scarecrows, dressed up as different characters, are placed around the village.

Calendar Girls film

Kettlewell is now also famous as a location for the 2003 hit movie Calendar Girls. It was the village of Knapely in the film and attracts many fans who want to see the sights made famous by the film. A “Calendar Girls Trail” brochure can be bought at local shops and pubs which gives information about the local landmarks and buildings used in many of the scenes.
